A BLACK AND WHITE AFFAIR

Friday was definitely an event to remember, it was my first time attending a successful black and white attire soiree. The celebration was held in honor of my dear friend, Teylor's Birthday. Teylor is a very classy lady, so I knew the event would be nothing short of refined class and elegance. Guests were required to wear black and white or all black. The event was hosted at Hotel Deco in their Encore Lounge. The decor was absolutely ravishing. The lounge is furnished in all black and white with modern details. The beautiful chandeliers put the icing on the cake and complete the experience. The atmosphere is very mellow, with a little music to help you unwind and enjoy the time there. The Encore Lounge has quickly become one of my favorite places in Omaha.

When I was told I had to wear black and white it created a bit of a problem for me, but I knew I could make it work even if it meant creating an outfit. I went to the Goodwill and found this perfectly egg shell collarless blazer. I wasn't sure if it would work, but I knew once I paired it with my accessories it would be great.

This is one of my favorite skirts that I purchased two years ago from ASOS, and I rarely ever get a chance to wear it.

MUSSEL MANIA

After my mussel experience at Espana, I've had this urge to find the best prepared mussels in town. My friend and foodie partner in crime, Shinnice, expressed to me on numerous occasions that Stokes Grill and Bar cooks up to her expectations. Although Shinnice does not blog about food, she cooks it very well and eats at enough restaurants to have a credible opinion. With that being said, I decided to pay them a visit and try their mussels. Stokes was very quiet when I arrived. Stokes is very much a casual dining eatery, but I was extremely pleased with their southwestern and mexican style decor.

I took the liberty of having their Cancun Margarita, and I must say that it was definitely a pleasant surprise. The adult beverage was very attractive to look at, quite a change from the traditional color of a house lime margarita. The taste was even better, sweet and tangy.

The mussels were drizzeled in a garlic cream sauce. I was a little dissappointed in the amount of sauce that the mussels were placed in. I had to order two more cups of garlic cream sauce and I mixed it with a little white wine sauce, which gave it a bitter and buttery sensation. The crusted ciabatta bread that was served with the mussels was a little bit of carb heaven. The bread was toasted and buttered to perfection. I ordered 3 more servings of the bread, because I just couldn't get enough of it's texture and flavor. I was more impressed with the bread and sauce than I was with the mussels. I counted like seven closed mussels and had to put them aside. However, the server was extremely understanding and offered to bring out another dish of them. Not too mention, he reacted very pleasantly to all the extra servings I requested. But, sadly, I must say I am still on the quest to find the best mussels in town.

Overall, I give Stokes a 2 and a half stars. I really enjoyed the service and my beverage, but my mussels required a lot of help and I am looking for mussel perfection. You can look to spend anywhere from $10 to $25 on the full experience of Stokes Grill and Bar.

TAPAS, PAELLA, MUSSELS

I recently had my first Spanish Tapas Bar experience at Espana. I first heard about this eatery back in 2006, and I always was curious about their food. I went to a few of their events that involved their restaurant being used as a spicy night club for salsa and house music. My friend, Shinnice, set up her birthday dinner there, and it gave me the opportunity to finally taste their unique cuisine. I tried the popular Spanish dish, Paella. The Paella requires a minimum of two people to order two dishes of it. The menu can be a little tricky when reading the minimum requirements. It gives you the impression that two people must share a serving, when in fact, two people must order two servings of the Paella. It takes 45 minutes to cook, so it is very important that you order tapas to hold you over until the main dish comes. The Paella is served piping hot and has quite an acquiring taste to it. I may have drowned my rice in lemon juice, but I believe that is what gave the dish more flavor. The rice is smothered in fresh lemons and an array of seafood delicacies. It gave me a new appreciation for mussels. I don't think I would order this dish again, because it was not love at first taste, but I would definitely go back for their mussels.

Overall I give Espana two and a half stars. I loved the atmosphere, the authenticity of the food and the service. Espana is a great place to enjoy tapas and have drinks with friends. But you should definitely look to spend anywhere from $30-$100 for the full experience.

but, leave it up to fashion photo critics to find something wrong. If you look very close, and I mean very close, so close that it is irrelevant, you will see that her hands are very large. It appears that she has been caught victim of a photo shop job gone wrong. But, all in all who really cares when you have a face as gorgeous as diamonds, and a floral ensemble designed by Dolce and Gabbana dictating the 2012 spring fashion trends? Not me!

CAT SCRATCH FEVER

I wore these pants today because my co-workers requested them several times, they said it reminds them of the song "Cat Scratch Fever". I have never heard of this song, but I think the title is funny and my co-workers just get so tickled by these pants that I just had to oblige them in their requests.

I wore these pants once before but this time I decided to be more funky with my vintage hot pink blouse.

I have so much to do this weekend and the next that its not even funny. I can only hope for a smooth next two weeks.

DID I MISS THE MEMO

Saturday was another night of fun and burger reviewing. I enjoyed my burger so much from the night before that I just had to have another. Anyone that knows me knows that my affinity for delicious hearty burgers is very serious. Once I have a good burger, I have to have another the next day, sometimes the same night. My acts of superflousness when it comes to burger consumption can get kind of out of hand, but I can't help myself. I didn't want to return to M's Pub so soon, so my girl pals and I decided to try Blanc Burgers + Bottles in Midtown .

We walked in and I was rather impressed by the modern decor and lighting. Lighting is very important to me in restaurants, as it sets the tone for how the service will be and sometimes the atmosphere. I loved the bottle display at the bar, as it was a constant reminder that everything you drink comes in a bottle. I thought the bottles gave the eatery a 1950's vintage flair, with a millenium execution.

Calamari Fries

The calamari fries were weltered in a buffalo sauce that seemed to amplify in tolerable spicyness with every swallow. It poses the question, why doesn't every restaurant have a similar recipie? Your days of eating bland fried octupus could be over forever once you try these. Not even dipping sauce can remedy the absence of the buffalo sauce coating.

This Bison burger really stood out on the menu, so I took a leap of carnivour faith and ordered what appeared to look like a beefy sensation. I ordered the Bison without asking the server if it was popular among customers, or asking her to give her reccomendations. Well, I must say that there is first time for everything. When the Bison burger arrived to the table, I dived mouthful in. Sadly, this burger looked and sounded better than it tasted. The meat was not hearty at all, infact it tasted like there were ingredients missing from its completion. I was pretty certain that I didn't ask for a soybean option.There is nothing worst than a burger that taste like imitation beef. It would be a waste of time to express that there was a conspiscuous absence in seasoning, but I feel it is my rightful duty as a foodie to let you know that the Bison is faint in flavor. If there was cheese on the burger I don't remember the taste, so I cannot give details about it. Even more disturbing is the presence of an over-easy egg, coupled with a spread of jam that does the burger no justice at all. The creators of this Bison probably thought they designed a signature stack of protein, unfortunately its just a food creation of over-priced misguided ideas. Even the pickle lacked in flavor. Is this restaurant doing something consumers don't know about? Have foodies missed the memo? I felt like I was eating diet food that I didn't ask for.

Truffle Fries

The Truffle Fries were served in a cart to remind you that you just ordered ala carte. I thought it was a clever reminder. To my dismay the fries also did nothing for my appetite. It was a fried potato job gone wrong. It really shocked me that the fries would be as insipid as they were, considering that they were sopped in truffle oil. I read so much about the delicacy of Truffles and its rich flavor, that I just expected my first Truffle experience to be different. And it was not, the fries were greasy, and well just greasy. Was I reaching for the stars? Perhaps I just needed some ginger to clean my palette from the Bison dissapointment, because these fries just did not cut it for me.

Overall my experience was lackluster, I feel as if the service could have been a little better as well. Our server seemed disinterested life, her service was about as bland as my Bison Burger and Truffle Fries. If it wasn't for the decor, I would have sunk into food depression. If you choose to dine at this eatery you can look to spend anywhere from $10-$15 dollars on a plate. Overall, I apprehensively rate the Blanc Burgers + Bottles experience 2 stars, in hopes that I will have a better experience the next time that I decide to go.

Simple Fridays

In my opinion, Fridays have to be one of the most exciting days of the week. It is the closing day of the work week, its a pay day, and its the day that caps of the weekend. Fridays allow you to get excited while about that last work day, while still maintaining the thought that you still have two more days of rest and relaxation. I took the liberty of trying out a new restaurant downtown in the Old Market. I was craving sushi like no other but my dear friend, Shinnice, suggested that I try something new with a great atmosphere. After perusing the internet and menus we decided to go with M's Pub.

The Lamb Burger

Consuming a burger on a late Friday evening was the farthest thing from my appetite. So after carefully studying the menu online, I decided that I was going to go with the Pasta Fettuccine dish. But, once we reached the restaurant I realized that the pasta was not Alfredo Fettuccine, and it put my craving in a sticky position. I am no stranger to trying new dishes, but last night was not the night. I wanted to have a fulfilling meal. The waitress assured me that the pasta was fulfilling, but one of her favorite plates was also The Lamb Burger. I told her to surprise me, well needless to say that it was the burger. She definitely made the right choice. The lamb was extremely plump and tender. The meat was well cooked and seasoned to perfection. The bun it was served on was warm and toasted. The provolone cheese was superbly melted with just the right hint of flavor.

There are a lot of options to decide from on their menu in respect to the four food groups, however, I was a little disappointed in their lack of carb choices for sides, so I decided to just go with a side of garlic mash potatoes. They were infused with cheese, butter and garlic. The chef achieved success in providing the "critical foodie" with a texture that gave way to a foundation of an actual "potato," but still chewy enough to actually be considered "mashed." I hate potatoes that are too lumpy, extremely mashed, needless to say INSTANT. The mashed potatoes complimented the burger so well that feel I must return to M's Pub in the future.

The restaurant had exceptional lighting and the atmosphere was very live. It was a great atmosphere for a casual Friday evening when you want to get together with friends. The eatery is a little small, but it allows you enough space to maneuver around. The size or lack thereof came as no surprise that there was no party room. The location gives you a lower level loft experience. M's Pub is definitely a hidden treasure in the sea of over-dined Omaha restaurants, not exactly the eatery that is rolling off the tip of the casual eater's tongue. Thank God I am not one of those individuals, because I really enjoyed the experience. Some of the menu prices were budget friendly, while other plates subjected you to a premium dining bill.You can expect to spend anywhere from $10-$35 dollars on a plate. Overall, the servers have an amazing fashion sense and they are extremely charming, which in my opinion completes the experience. I rate M's Pub 3 stars.

It's 2012, can you believe it? I have so many visions for this year and I am excited to see them come into fruition. I am working on my 2012 lifestyle vision board. A lot of my visions are for my blog and my evolution within style and fashion.

Isn't this sweater just amazing? The purchase of this sweater was so ironic, I stumbled upon it while I was shopping for ugly Christmas sweaters at the thrift store. I think its vintage, but I am not entirely sure. I love it dearly. The fuzzy balls give it so much character and definition. Not to mention, this sweater is extremely warm and cozy. I decided to pair it with my favorite vintage mustard skirt and over worn leopard pumps. I also painted my nails last night, which I seem to get better at each time. I used Pure Ice's "Frosted Ice" nail polish. I love it, but then again, I love everything blue.

A DAY OFF

I had the day off today thank goodness. I enjoyed my alone time cleaning, catching up on my favorite blogs and setting goals for my future. I also got some time to enjoy time with my friends and eat some of their delightful cooking.

I was feeling extremely relaxed today, so I opted for a casual look coupled with prissy flair. I added my carnation for a little more femininity.

SURPRISE ME

I have officially decided to give the city of Omaha a fair chance. I have never been the one to really explore the city the way that I should have, because I was to busy wishing I could relocate. Well I am here, and I feel as if I should make the most of it. Life is exactly what you make it, so why not make it amazing. Well, yesterday I did just that. I planned a late dinner at The Grey Plume for my friends, Shinnice, Tim, and I. The Grey Plume is an upscale resturant in Midtown, where the cusine is seasonally-driven. The service was amazing, and it leaves you with an greater appreciation for fine dining. The ambiance was comforting and toasty. I felt relaxed and excited to be there.

(Duck Fat French Fries)

I started my first plate off with the Duck Fat French Fries. These were not your typical resturant fried potatoes. These fries were garnished with little green edible leaves, and covered in a creamy drizzle. I was a little caught off guard by the over-easy egg, as I like my eggs cooked well done. The egg actually provided an interesting flavor to the fries. And the fries were cooked to a moistful perfection. Needless to say the dish was nothing short of succulent.

For my second plate I ordered the Market Fresh Fish. There was a choice between the salmon and trout. I could not decide, so I told the server to surprise me. That is typically what I ask the server to do when I am being too indecisive. Usually I am dissapointed, this time I was not. The server brought me the Trout. The fish was so flaky and tender. The sweet potatoes and creme fraiche spatzle melted in my mouth with every bite.

Sunday Delights

I am quickly adapting to the personalized theory of the "Three F's", that is Fashion, Food, and Fun. I love fashion, but food doesn't follow to far behind. Today was a day of relaxtion, and what is a day of rest without great cuisine. I visited a resturant that is quickly becoming my default eatery Johnny's Italian Steakhouse. The food is absolutely succulent. I started off with a firm lemon drop martini.

Then I moved on to the house salad that was perfectly saturated in Italian dressing.

Next, came the amazing Johnny's Chanel #5. I rate this dish a 3 and half. Its rich butter garlic cream sauce was a tad bit salty, but the hefty servings of shrimp and lobster made up for it. I was satisfied, and although it starts off as a rather light dish, it is very fulfilling.

I had a slice of my girlfriend's parmesan crusted sirlon steak. It was one of the most tender slices of beef I have ever had the pleasure of tasting.

I endulged in another martini, which happened to be the chocolate martini, it was nothing short of rich chocolatey goodness. It will definitely leave you feeling like you are floating in the clouds.

A side of loaded mash potatoes completed my experience. I definitely think that I am a fan of Johnny's Italian Steakhouse. I strongly reccomend this resturant to the committed foodie.

November Memories

November is one of my favorite months because of the many birthdays that are celebrated during this time of year. Last night was my dear friend's Tim's birthday. He opted to be entertained with company at Brix a chic winery uptown. We indulged in an evening of exquisite wine, food and relaxing discourse. The service and experience was amazing. I debuted my new favorite vintage ruffle blouse from Paper Doll Vintage Boutique. I felt it was appropriate for the occassion.

I long for the day when I am able to attend a fashion event in Paris and receive a hearty dose of couture mayheim. I love European flair and it's influences on style. It brings a smile to my face.

This dress reminds me of my first experiences in thrifting. I didn't quite know what I was doing and I kept buying the same style of dresses. It really just makes laugh for several minutes. It sure is good to know that I have evolved. I look foward to evolving more this year.

I am definitely finding new ways to create chic work appropriate outfits.I purchased these pants a while back in May. I opted to wear them while sporting a more casual look. The color of these reminds me of pink champagne. My mother said that use to be the adult beverage of her day. I think that drink would have been rather tasty.

Blue Lagoon

Today was such a beautiful day. I got a chance to catch up with some friends and family. I also got a chance to do some much needed meditation. I laughed a lot today and laughing is always good for the soul, especially with the crazy week I just experienced.

I love this vintage dress, I purchased it at the Goodwill almost a year ago. I donned my favorite carnation pin and new vintage green suede belt to jazz up my outfit. I had the hem shortened to give it a little modern appeal. Blue is my favorite color and I love placket collars, so I was sold the moment I saw it. As much as I dread digging through piles of used clothing, I love finding my lightly loved treasures.

I love these bracelets. I only wear the smaller charm every now and again, because it was a very special gift that I can't afford to loose.

One day I will actually post a video on how to thrift, because it can be very overwhelming at times, but the result is extremely rewarding. This weekend I found some great vintage pieces at my favorite thrift stores. I can't wait to share them with you.

MUSTARD COMPLIMENTS

I am not really a big fan of the fall, because of the swift change in weather temperatures and the equinox. However, I do get excited to experiment with autumn like colors, layers, coats, and tights. I will be doing a lot more thrifting this fall, because it allows me to be more creative with my style.

I tried taking these pictures right before the sun fell, but unfortunately my photographer was not so successful with catching the natural light. Thus, proving my distaste for this season's daylight savings. I am going to miss the days of getting off at 5pm and still getting an opportunity to have pictures with good lighting. I am also going to miss jogging outside. As it begins to get dark much earlier, I will have to take my work out plan to the gym.

I picked this mustard vintage skirt up at the thrift store last Sunday. I loved it so much that I just couldn't leave the store without it.

As late summer creeps in and fall fashion claims its territory for the season, the subsequent trends are becoming more apparent each month. Eager to be current about the ins and outs, I scurried over to the Style site, and became enchanted by Christian Dior's Fall 2011 collection. This collection revealed THREE things at first glance: PASTELS, PRINTS AND ORGANZA. And, who doesn't love organza? The designer label has definitely managed to keep its edge, despite the departure with John Galliano and Bill Gaytten stepping in as his successor. I apologize for being absent from my blog for so long. I had to tie up a few loose strings after I returned home from my trip to Dallas. Lately, I have been in a very casual mood. Everything that I have been wearing as of lately, is either flowey or loose fitting. I have the daunting task of dressing work- appropriate while managing to stay true to my style in this summer heat. It can be a rather challenging at times.

I absolutely love this clutch. I purchased it at a vintage store in Chicago. It is one my favorites, it screams late 70's/early 80's.

Lately, it has been really windy in the O, I am starting to think I live in Chicago. I was feeling really casual today, so I donned a glitzy vintage sequins jacket, courtesy of the House of IMOD boutique. For those of you living in the Omaha area, it is definitely a great boutique to shop for vintage treasures. I paired the jacket with my very comfortable striped tank and favorite jeans that I have pretty much worn until the wheels have fallen off.

I leave for Dallas early Thursday morning to visit my best friend her 25th birthday. I am really eager to explore their thrift stores.

I finally got a chance to wear my accordion pleated vintage skirt. Pleat skirts are on trend this summer. This skirt has been sitting in my closet for over two summers now. I remember when I first purchased it on my trip in California. I fell in love with the metallic fabric and pleats. My mother said that it reminded her of the disco skirts she use to wear in the 70's. I love when my mother tells me that she use to sport the clothes that I am now purchasing when I thrift. It makes it all the more special, because it affirms that it is a true vintage piece.

Music Review of Beyonce's latest album, "4"

It is no secret that one of music's most valuable songstresses has returned from a year hiatus. Aside from expected hair product commercials, a concert DVD release, and a music collaboration that left you in a maze, the ever-present Ms. Knowles-Carter finally gave herself and fans some space to enjoy other artists to dominate the radio air waves. Fans were literally left with rumors of a baby, scarce updates of a fourth album, and a workout playlist of "I am.... Sasha Fierce" album favorites to build up mountains of anticipation. Well, anticipate no further, because the Queen B has assumed the thrown for the fourth time after her smashing Billboard Awards' performance, a new single, and a bittersweet exclusive leak of her latest album. The album wasn't scheduled to be released until June 28th. She must be upset.

The album is titled, 4, a number that Beyonce explained held personal significance for several reasons, one noticeably being the release of her "fourth" album. September 4th is the day of her birth, and not too mention, the 4th is the day that solidified the union of Jigga and B. The album's simplistic title is compensated by a compilation of 12 tracks narrowed down from more than 60, with unique production, and the star power to remain interesting after delivering four albums.

The album's lead single and ironically last track, "Run the World (Girls)" rallies up herds of Beyonce female fanship to prepare for a war against the opposite sex who have become disgustingly comfortable with conservative notions of gender roles by reminding them of how much power women really do hold. "My persuasion can build a nation." The track can be added to the collection of Beyonce's signature girl power anthems; as it stays true to her conventional independent woman theme, and serves as a female liberation motivator. Heavy drum filled work and random video game sound effects attempt to make the song an uptempo club banger, but sadly looses its appeal with inconsistent melodies and uncertainties of how one should actually dance to it. However, like any other Beyonce anthem accompanied by the video, the repetition forces the song to grow on your eardrums, suddenly becoming a guilty pleasure and leaving you wanting more of her. Luckily, more variety is exactly what listeners get when listening to the rest of the production that is offered on this album.

The album takes a turn for the best, pinned down with sultry R&B tracks like "Party," produced by Kanye West featuring Andre 3000. The song talks about the confident decision to spend the night with someone you are interested in."I told my friends you can get it." Harmonic vocals complimented with computerized bass give way to a throw back smooth 80's funk groove, very reminiscent of the Roger and Zapp infused with a little SOS Band. It is definitely one of those songs that you place on repeat and cruise to in the car, with lyrics and melodies embedded in your head even after you reached your destination. "Rather Die Young" is another smooth R&B driven track very recalling of a soulful 70's Motown hit. The lyrics describes the dismay for the fast lifestyle of a lover, and the love for them that supersedes it all. Beyonce said she was very inspired by artist like, The Jackson 5, Earth, Wind, and Fire, Prince, and Teena Marie. This record is undeniably the most vocal controlled song of all tracks, and executes intense diaphragm power when necessary. The closing bridge of this track is sure to bring tears to the eyes, as it is sung to perfection and showcases true vocal range. "Love on Top" is another uptempo love song inspired by the true R&B era that demonstrates Beyonce's vocal ability. Her decision to revisit sounds that rarely surface in this generation proves that quality music never gets old.

The joys of being a supportive mate and madly in love wife was expressed in songs like the "Countdown." this track takes more of a trendy production approach, but still manages to keep the listener in tuned with the lyrics and beat of the song. The song's witty sub-chorus is a reminder of how much fun "B" likes to have when she shares her talent with fans. "My baby is a ten, we dressing to the nine, he pick me up at eight, make me feel so lucky seven."

There would not be a Beyonce album without the presence of an over dramatic ballad. "1+1" is the album's opener and leading love song. She takes a stab at serenading her partner with uncanny vocal theatrics and numerous rippled grunts that sound like they damage vocal chords. Her newly developed raspy tone becomes more disturbing as she belts out poetic mush that resembles diary entries of a 12-year-old. "I don't know much about algebra, but I know one plus one equals two." The dramatized, sappy pronunciations of "you" walk a fine line of becoming unbearable. The sincerity of her declaration of love rescues the song from a sinkhole. The singer's string of ballads continues with "I was here." Thankfully, the song rebounds the album from complete delicate fluff, humbly echoing Beyonce's achievements and purpose in life. Beyonce suppresses the urge to scream this time around by exercising voice control and softening her vibrato.

With the exception of "Run the World (Girls)," this album really exhibited Beyonce's vulnerable side, and was finally a breath of fresh air from the: overly savvy business woman, money first, I can write a check for a million dollars, too, super confident times 10, I can upgrade you mentality. As much as her fans love to hear her roar about her superwoman capabilities, then boast about her ego measuring up to her $100 million dollar music mogul husband. It was finally just nice to hear her say how much she loved her man and wanted him to just hold her at the end of the day. This album receives three and half stars.

RESTOCK SEASON

As the weather gets warmer and more difficult to bear, my desire to find a new summer wardrobe increases by the minute. My closet is filled with blazers that I will not be able to wear as often as I would like, because of my low tolerance of heat and perspiration. I always believed that summer was the hardest season to shop for clothes. Retailers insist on filling the racks with an overwhelming amount of casual spaghetti strap dresses and recycled rompers. And, lets not talk about the ridiculous influx of maxi dresses that we are going to see. A good summer wardrobe is extremely hard to come by. I will really have to tap into my creative side to stay excited about what I am wearing.

I definitely want to try tribal prints more than ever. It is a look that seems to return every summer, but as trendy as it may seem, I feel as if its classically summer appropriate. I will never getting tired of seeing it, wearing it, and lets just say wearing it again.

I recently visited this Goodwill Boutique called the Reserve and found some really great treasures. This bag was one of those treasures. It took some negotiating with the sales associate before I made the purchase. The ending result was this amazing vintage 60's Verdi purse. I love it. Word of advice: When you are making transactions at a thrift store always negotiate.

READER'S REQUEST: THE FANNY PACK HAS RESURRECTED

It never fails that one of the most hideous fashion trends of the last few decades finds a way to be reincarnated into a stylish creation (also known as good fashion karma). I'm talking about fads that disgust me and you everytime we revisit 80's music videos and movies that casted actors"s with greasy hair and barbie make up. The kind of fads that make you grimace and cringe every time your mom pulls out child hood pictures of you, and you would wonder why she actually let you style your hair or clothes like that.
Take shoulder pads for example, you couldn't pay me enough to leave my shoulder pads in my suit jackets and tops when my mom would buy my "Sunday's best outfits". I was constantly tearing them out of my shirts. And, once trendsetters put an end to the shoulder pad movement, many became disgusted by the fact such an idea was even created. Now, lets move foward into the 00's, ironically, some genius designer suddenly decides that shoulder pads would be cool again. So, now every blazer that mimics a shoulder pad or sculpted look is to be consider fashionable. And, let me just say that I definitely went through my should pad obsession in 2009-2010. My blazers just did not seem to fit the part if they were not full of shoulder cushion.

Well the time has come to resurrect another fashion trend that no one saw coming, "The Fanny Pack."

The original Fanny Pack took over the world. Everyone had them in assorted colors. People wore them even if they didn't match the rest of their outfit, hence the massive production of neon colors. Men, women, and children wore them as the hottest accessory. You actually were put into the "fly" category if you had a fanny pack.Some people never kept anything in them, if just gave them great comfort to know they were sporting the fashionable trend. Not only wore they wore for fashion, but they also served a purpose. They relieved many women of carrying purses or getting them snatched off their shoulders. I mean, who would really want to take 15 minutes to try and snatch a neon green fanny pack off your waist? Because, once they were attached to your hip, they were strapped on really really tight.

Unfortunately, some people never left the original Fanny Movement. Designers have created a new look for those type of people. Look no longer the new Fanny Pack is back in style.

I wasn't a fan of these Overstock updated versions, but I am head over heels with Diane Von Furstenburg and Etro's interpretation of how a Fanny Pack should look in this day and age.

The name "Fanny Pack" in itself sounds horrific, you may now refer to these stylish hipsters as "the hands free" bag, or "the waist bag"....I think I want one now. How about you?

Lets Go Crazy

Today was an interesting day. I did some reflecting at work, and it became ever so clear to me that I am definitely beyond conventional in every way possible. I was never the type of person who slid into society's standards of what was considered "normal" or what I would like to call common. Everything about me is rather complex or of the unfamiliar. From my short hair cut, to my wide nose, right down to my size 11 shoe. I draw attention to my full thick lips by applying fushia or ruby red lipstick, while other choose to apply nude colors with the intent of diverting the attention elsewhere. I eat my dessert before my dinner, and I drink my liquids after my meal is complete. I scream when I laugh, and I think weddings are boring. I graduated from College at 26, and I still have a mentor that helps me pronounce words that I don't know. I'm not really convinced that I know what a touch down is, and I recently just discovered what an oxymoron was. And, when it comes to fashion, I never match. Many may label me as strange or the epitome of taboo. However, I believe the complexity of my existence is what always set my apart. I like to think of it as being cut from a different kind of fabric. I believe that is why true fashion holds dear to my heart, because we are both abstract in every way possible.

I love the pattern of this jumpsuit, it is very playful. When I first looked at this jumpsuit I couldn't tell if I wanted to wear it as pajamas or an actual garment, but after trying it on, I knew it would be perfect for daywear. I wore this outfit once before on my trip to Chicago, but I never actually got the chance to enjoy it the way I wanted to. Today was different.

I love mixing prints. I feel so liberated when I do it, and I feel like I can take over the world.

I wore all of these bracelets plus more on my trip to Chicago, and almost my missed flight because I had to take them all off during the security check. It was one of the most overwhelming traveling experiences that I ever had. If you are an accessory fanatic, I would like to suggest that you not wear a stack of bracelets like this until after the security check. Put your bracelets in a little sack in your carry on. Take them out of your bag while you are waiting to board the plan, then put them on your wrist. At last, you can reach your destination in style.

Summer's Bliss

This weekend was amazing, I stayed in and catched up on some much neglected projects. I cleaned, cleaned, and cleaned. After cleaning I organized, and job searched. It felt good to just stay in and get things in order. I even had a little time to spare for reading. I am reading a self-help book called, Soar With Your Strengths. The book stresses the importance of focusing your energies on your strengths, rather than devoting all your time trying to improve your weaknesses, which may always remain a weakness. I like the book so far, it is very insightful.

I purchased this dress on my trip in Chicago at a boutique, which I cannot remember. I love this dress, its screams grecian delight. I love the detail on the shoulders and the egg shell white color. It made me feel so whimisical today. I'm not really a big fan of matching, and my dismay for it seems to increase each year. So, I decided to offset the color of this dress with my navy blue vintage clutch, and multi-colored toffee BCBG heels. This dress makes me feel so free, that I just wanted to liberate my whole body, so I left my neck and wrists bare. Going light on the accessories is an idea that is foreign to me.

Morning Inspiration

This weekend is going to be dedicated to organization, blogging, cleaning, and catching up on current issues and trends (social and fashion related). Yesterday I went to the thrift store searching for a hot pink blazer with gold buttons, and I found patio furniture instead. My eyes were captivated by a wooden bamboo like chair with a corduroy tan cushion. It was ideal for the Caribbean, beach theme I have for my apartment. I have always wanted to sit outside on my balcony, drinking a glass of wine, watching the busy neighborhood streets. Well, when I saw the chair I knew that it would be perfect for my summer vision. I plan to spend a lot of time at home with myself this summer reflecting and preparing for my phase II of life. This new patio chair will give me comfort while I am reading, blogging, and reflecting. I will be taking pictures of myself relaxing in it soon. Lately the weather has been dreadful.

A Colorful Day

Over the years, I have really learned to appreciate color palettes and the textures of fabrics. I definitely think they make the garment more exciting. I have always been drawn to the blue family, because the richness of the color complimented my skin tone the best. I really gained an appreciation and understanding of color after working in my first high end retail job. I gathered a better understanding for fabric texture after my first costume design class. My costume design class was the first time I realized the value of clothes and the production that goes into making them. Clothes are not just meant to be worn, they are meant to be adored, taken care of, and cherished. Clothes will last you a lifetime. Be good to them. Appreciate their attributes. Love them in your own way.

Phase Two

It feels so good to be back blogging again. I had to take a leave of absence to focus on my last semester of undergrad. I am officially a college graduate, and it feels amazing. I recently landed a intern/staff position at Mal Pearson Productions as a PR assistant to Mal Pearson, a CW network correspondent, fashion and beauty consultant. I am ecstatic to be doing exactly what I love (television, fashion, and writing). My first day at the office was today, and I felt like I was working in the offices of Vogue. It felt great to walk into work with my 5 inch stilettos and nude mac lip gloss, where it was actually considered normal to be fashionable. I was surrounded by a sea of fashion magazines, beauty products and mannequins draped in posh garments with colleagues, who too aspire to sit in the first row at New York fashion week, have dinner with Anna Dello Russo, and sport this season's latest pair of Christian Louboutin's platform heels to a afternoon trunk show. Who would have thought I could actually attain fashion heaven in Omaha, Nebraska. I see a great future for myself.

I recently just came back from a trip to Chicago and the weather was absolutely unbearable, but I managed to tolerate the weather's random sudden change of heart enough to do some much anticipated shopping. I found a really great vintage blazer that I will be wearing soon. I can't wait to blog about it. These army green suede shoes were collected during the trip. I love how toned they make my legs look and the mini peep hole. However, they are not the most comfortable to walk in. I definitely switched into flats when I went to my second job today, as I do a lot more walking there. Yet, I managed to put them back on to go to the grocery store. As one of my good friends, Jakeen, would say "fashion above all else". Beauty and Fashion knows no pain.

THE GREAT INSPIRATION

Recently, I did a photo shoot and submitted it to facebook. My photo shoot was centered around originality, edgy fashion, and bold make-up. It was one of those affairs, where you just had to let loose and allow yourself to break free, but also tap into the ultra confident person. I did my best to overwhelm my photographer with a piercing stare. I love high fashion pictures with gaudy make-up and actions with purpose. As I prepared for my photo shoot for The Art Hype contest, I took inspiration from several pictures that I had admired for a long time. This collage is just a few of my inspirations that allowed me to transform myself into the confident model.

Do you really need an alter-ego to be a model

Recently, I entered into a t-shirt contest for the Arthype. In order to participate you had to purchase a shirt and take your most creative picture. I thought the contest would be fun so I entered it. All I knew was that I wanted a high fashion element to it. I love loud colors, big tutu skirts, and gritty photo shoot locations. I searched high and low for a location and I found one. Can you believe my top actually use to be an XL t-shirt. The lovely Miss Rosha Taylor helped me with the entire photo shoot. Rosha constructed my outfit, decorated my face and hair AND took the photos. She is awesome. In order to win the contest I must have the most facebook likes and comments. The Color Experiment

Spring is here and I so elated to explore with color and upgrade my vintage collection along with my purchases from boutiques and department stores. Spring and summer are the best months to experiment with color. They are my favorite seasons to wear dresses.

Recently, I attended a cozy house warming, it was amazing. It gave me a chance to wear my new vintage blazer. I love it. I will be starting a new store on my blog to sell some the vintage items I collect. The store should be up and running by the middle of May.

There is something so alluring about a well dressed man, who takes out the time to accessorize with a handkerchief (pocket square). It caputures a modern-day regalness, and it is such a smooth approach to men's fashion. It shows a man with exquisite taste and suavity. This masculine acessory provides that refined detail to a blazer, suit, or vest. Historically a handkerchief held very many symbolic meanings. It is my belief that he modern day handerkerchief represents apathy (he cares about what he is wearing), concept ( he thought about it), time management (he took out the time to put it together), sophistication (he understands how someone of a mature age should dress), and last but certainly not least, style (he is accustomed to dressing himself and knows what looks good on his physique.)

One may ask, how could a simple piece of folded cloth play such a huge role in a man's appearance? Historically a handkerchief held very symbolic meanings.

Handkerchief: In classical Greece pieces of fine perfumed cotton, known as mouth or perspiration cloths, were often used by the wealthy. From the 1st cent. B.C., Roman men of rank used an oblong cloth of linen (the sudarium) chiefly to wipe perspiration from the face and hands. During the empire a square handkerchief of cotton or silk was carried, especially by women. READER REQUEST (TIPS ON HOW TO DRESS YOUR SHAPE)

Recently, one of my readers asked me to blog about selecting clothes that are appropriate for specific figures. Shopping can be brutal when you are trying to buy clothes that flatter your shape, and give your body a proportioned appearance. Being the curvacious women that I am, I have to work that much harder to find clothes that balance my shape and still allow me to look stylish. Maintaining optimism while searching for my size on boutique racks and second-hand stores poses even more of a challenge for me, but I try not to let myself get discouraged. Often times than not, fashion magazines advertise clothes on models that are a size 2 to a 6, with a size 8 treading thin ice of being considered plus size, adding to the misery of the you face with the lack resource guidance. Well, I am a 10-12, and that pretty much makes a plus size woman, with a body that I have learned to accept and dress.

I don't claim to know all the rules, but I apply the basics and gather knowledge from everything I can pretty much find. I recently, purchased The Lucky Guide To Mastering Any Style, by Kim France and Andrea Linett and Dress Your Best, by Clinton Kelly and Stacy London Hosts of TLC's, What Not to Wear. Each book contains over 200 pages, with rules, advice and picture friendly images to assist you with dressing your body. There is so much information that one couldn't dare post all of it in one blog post. Therefore, I have decided to post rules and tips 2-3 times a month on how to shop and dress your figure. Today I would like to focus on curvacious/plus size shapes:

BACK TO THE BASICS: When dressing a curvacious/plus size shape
Always remember proportion is key. Proportion means making sure that you are able to balance you look. An example of this would be "long over short." A long jacket with skinny pants or a loose fitting blouse with a fitted pencil skirt or mini or shorts.

Flatter your figure
If you are like me and have a little extra in the middle, try to camouflage the areas that have the potential to create a fashion mishap.

Use your better judgement on what looks flattering for your shape.) I myself like to experiment with different prints and colors, but this rule can be applied depending on the mood I am. There are different perspectives on fashion and I like to go with what looks good, but it also keep it fun. I don't always go completely by the book, but I do take tips and rules here and there. However, if you feel this rule better suits your fashion goals, than by all means do whatever your feel works better for you.

The Reign of the Structure. If your are anything like me and have an obsession with blazers, then you are absolutely going to love this fundamental. Clinton and Stacey say "that the structured jacket is basically the solution to everything," and I absolutely agree. I believe a structured dress, jacket, shirt or blazer can flatter your figure.

Structured garments have the ability to camoflauge the extra "love" that you carry in some areas while simultaneoulsy providing that much wanted stylish flair.

I am a fanatic of quality beauty products, toiletries, and furnishings that make my moments on earth more precious than the day before. I am usually not a big technology connoisseur, but with the latest capabilites of Apple devices, my curiosity and desire to have the IPhone is intensifying every day. I hear that it's a fashion blogger's best friend.

1.Creed Spring Flowers perfume, $225.00.I have been consistently wishing on a star since 2008 for this perfume. This fragrance has such a delightful floral scent to it. It is perfect for evening wear.

2. Mac Superglass Lipgloss, $21.00. I first discovered this lipgloss last spring and I have been hooked ever since. It makes a huge statement with its tiny gold flakes, that can give any pout a colorful sizzle.

3. Bath and Body Works Sea Island Cotton Wall Flowers $16.50. These home fragrance plug-ins keep your living space smelling fresh and crisp, providing you with the ulimate cozy experience that makes you want to spring clean your whole entire apartment.

4.Bath and Body Works Sea Island Cotton Shower Gel, $10.50. This shower gel has such a light and airy scent to it. It makes you feel like you have been swimming in a "sea of cotton."

5. The Apple IPhone $600.00. Some wish items remain wish items. I really want this phone, but it definitely has to be budgeted in. I am extremely impressed with all of the applications it has to offer. I know it will make my life alot more simple than what my broken Blackberry Pearl has doing. It is so time for an upgrade.

6.Pureology Hydrate Hair Shampoo, $49.00. I am search of a hair shampoo that hydrates my hair, and I have heard great reviews about this shampoo. I need alot of moisture for me thick tresses, and I believe his shampoo is the answer.

7. Napeolon Gold Perdis Loose Dust, $20.00. I first fell in love with this eye shadow when I watched a friend get her make up done at a Napeolon make up counter. I love the sparkle it adds to the eye, it gives you that ultra glamourous look. And, I am all about the glam.

8. Mirrored White Pillows. I am redecorating my apartment, and I want my couches to have a white finished look. I am currently searching for the fluffy pillows that makes my slouching experience feel like heaven.

I draw alot of inspiration from a variety of people. Bloggers inspire me a lot, but I also admire celebrities, powerful business moguls, and socialites. My first style icon is socialite, reality star, and fashion guru, Olivia Palermo. Olivia's style is so sleek. She always appears to be well put together, without a single hair strand out of place. Her style is refreshing, daring, but also sophisticated. She is definitely the epitome of a style icon.

Omaha Fashion Week: 2011 Spring Preview

OMAHA- Nomad Lounge recently hosted the city's very own Omaha Fashion Week VIP Spring Runway show. The show featured 12 designers, narrowed down from 50 that were exclusively picked to preview their collections for the season.

The preview gave designers a chance to market their prowess, and network with some of the city's most influential media contributors and fashion gurus. Spectators gathered around in crowds to mingle and celebrate the artistic merit of local talent.

Floral details, neutral colors, structured bodices, a-line skirts, and sheath fitted dresses seemed to dominate the catwalk. Some of the collections appeared to have infused historic fashionable era inspirations, while others stayed true to the modernism of the 21st century. Head gear seemed to be a favorite among many of the designers. Hair accessories gave the models theatrical appeal and enhanced the life of the show.

Each designer expressed their own interpretation of art, and what it meant to them in the medium of clothes. OFW designer, Audi Kuiken, revealed the inspiration behind her mens wear collection theme, "Ragtap Renegade. The 25-year-old designer said she draws influences from newsboys and street fighting. “I have really been inspired by textures of fabric and really inspired by color," said Kuiken.

Kuiken's interest to participate in the spring preview show was sparked by her involvement with show last fall. Kuiken's goal was to bring exciting casual wear to Omaha. "I really want to stay small right now, I love to design locally," said Kuiken. The event definitely set the tone for what to expect from designers and vendors in the fall.

As I mentioned earlier this week, the photography element of the blog has got to be the most challenging thing.Technique is everything, and unfortunately I just don't feel that my photographs convey that just yet. I love polished, refined, crisp, and editorial syle pictures. This goal can be a little difficult to accomplish when you are not very familiar with your cameras settings or photography. Something as simple as forgetting to white balance can ruin your photograph. Luckily, I was able to rescue these photos from a complete over exposed disaster by editing them.

The art of posing is as equally as important as the technical side of photography, and in my opinion, it is just not my strong point. I find it difficult to look straight on into the camera without smiling. I don't consider myself a model, and I don't have that edgy stare that I admire about most models. Action pictures are my favorite. Most times I look away from the camera, but I find this to be unnatural and too rehearsed even. I don't want to just seem like a woman who just poses in closthes. I really want to express my style, but also seem inviting. I want my blog to have a sense of editorialism to it, but I also want it to seem very personable to the reader. I want the reader to enjoy coming back each tim. I just want to express my personal style.

I am sharing my concerns with you, because I love expressing my feelings, but I also believe it is important to have this relationship with your readers. As my blog evolves, I want you to understand the challenges I faced to get to this I desire. I want you to witness my evolution, and what better way, than to share it with you. Over the course of the month, I am going to work hard to improve my pictures and my blog content. I am very excited for this challenge. I am going to be extremely busy with graduation approaching and all. I am so elated for this process.

A PAPPARAZZI MOMENT (Reader becomes outraged and leaks photo)

Today, I experienced one of the most shocking paparazzi moments of my fashion blogging career, when a candid photo of me was released to Facebook. Recently, She's Obsessed fan, Abiola Kosoko witnessed me wearing relaxed apparel on one of my "off days" at an intimate gathering, and became extremely furious. My unfamiliar appearance outraged Kosoko so much that he caputured a mobile photo, and exposed it to Facebook, in hopes that I would loose support and fashion blogging credibility. His digust reached an all time high when he created an album titled "Photos of Felicia," which insinuated that he would be posting more shocking photos in the future to rectify this fashion crime he believed offended him. Kosoko also went to the extremes of creating a social media thread, gathering facebook friends, including his brother whom also shared a mutual disgust, with intentions to ridicule me as a "fashonista."

At first, I took a very defensive approach to this situation and responded hastily. I just couldn't believe that someone would be so appalled by a fashion blogger's off day, that they would go through the trouble of capturing a picture, saving it to their phone (which holds very little memory), and remembering to post it the same day that she promotes her blog post to facebook But, then I considered how appalled I am when my FAVORITE fashion icons make fashion mishaps. However, I never thought that I would experience unwanted papparrazzi attention similar to that of an international A-list celebrity on a local city level. Who would have thought that even in the city of Omaha, papparazzi were flashing mobile phone cameras anticipating the very moment that you are caught on a off day to leak it to the public.

I want to humbly inform my readers that although I breathe fashion, I do not always leave the house looking picture perfect. I am not a 24-hour glamazon. Some days I wear bleached sweats, gym t-shirts, snow boots, no make up, and a hat to cover my unfinished head. I now realize that She's Obsessed readers hold me to high standards, due to my blog and usual attire, and by right those standards should be met in most cases. I would like to thank the Kosokos for this papparazzi experience, and for encouraging me to stay on my A-game, even on a day of exhaustion. This picture is the best motiviation that I could ever have to stay fashionably prepared for any occassion.To all my fellow fashion bloggers out there, just remember eyes are always on you, cameras are always flashing, and your readers have high expectations, or this could be the consequence: (read below)

Getting Into The Groove

In 2008 I started this blog, unsure of the direction it would eventually take. I just knew that I wanted to write about fashion, and this avenue allowed me to do that. I remember being so excited about my basic template, and putting together Polyvore sets, which I hardly use anymore, trying to figure out my niche within the fashion blogosphere. It wouldn't be long before I discovered addictive blogs such as, "Because I'm Addicted, Cupcakes and Cashmere, Karla's Blog, Sea of Shoes and The Glamouri. These blogs inspired me to enhance my blog, style, and resarch influences.

The biggest challenge I faced was committing to regular updates. Staying current with your blog and readers takes a lot of dedication, time, research and photography assistance. Getting someone to take your regularly take your picture has proven to be the most difficult thing, when accepting your role as a blogger who publicly documents his or her personal style. Consequently, I find myself asking my friends all hours of the day to take pictures of me. Nevertheless, I feel it is necessary for the success of my blog and to develop as a professional blogger. This year I decided to really commit to this blog. I am still getting into the groove of things, figuring out how many times a week I will and can post. I have to set away time to research new trends, and much more. I really want this blog to succeed, and I understand the sacrifices I will have to make for this dream. A few of my favorites for Fall 2011. Viktor's Rolf's Ready to Wear collection has some of the most intricate pieces. This collection featured neutral colors, stiff patterns, structured collars, and slim fitted pants and waist lines. This line encompassed an Avante Garde look with an ancient Midieval spin. I definitely approve.

Make A Decision Already

Searching for the right picture can be a bit overwhelming, especially when you have over 20 favorites. I suffer from indecisiveness and it hinders me from choosing quality over quantity. I take hours to filter through the photos I want to post, and I always end up with five or more. One day I would love to just have four good ones. I remember watching an episode of the reality show, Stylista, where the contestants had a challenge of putting together a fashion editorial spread. The contestants were grouped into to two teams, and the loosing team lost, due to their inability to choose less photos for the editorial spread. Well, let me just say that I can definitely relate to the experience of wanting to choose them all. But, what are you to do, when you love them all the same? Thank God there are no photo limitations on this blog. However, I gather it would be a good idea to start choosing less photos, to prepare me for the career I am going to have in fashion editorial.

I love this vintage mustard suede coat, I randomly bought it during one of my vintage explorations downtown. I have only worn it once, and that was to report my first news story. I was more concerned about the fashion than the actual story, and boy did it show in my story. It was a location disaster.

The mink collar and pleated detail on this coat screams vintage. It definitely closed the deal for me.

It reminded me of a coat from the 1930's. I am extremely curious of its previous ownership. There is something about it being vintage that makes it all the more special.

A recent discussion with two males compelled me to really gather my scattered thoughts and reevaluate my idea of what truly makes a woman BAD. I was challenged over and over again to give my description of what a BAD woman was, and sadly I contradicted myself each time I changed the meaning. Unfortunately, I couldn't disassociate physical attractiveness from the definition as much as I wanted to. My credibility began to diminish, because I couldn't commit to the simple definition and I began to second guess myself.

I went home and really pondered on what the definition of a BAD woman meant to me and what she looked like. It was then that I realized I allowed myself to get lost in the word's trendy usage to reference some one's physical appearance. Consequently, I would loosely use the word to refer to someone I thought was insanely pretty with intriguing sex appeal. I admit that this is pretty easy to do when you live in a society that prioritizes attractiveness, and allows looks to set the tone for how others will interact with you. You would like to think that our notions of attractiveness encompasses inner and outer beauty, but often times it does not and we allow ourselves to get wrapped into superficial thinking patterns. I feel as a woman, it is my duty to be able to identify a BAD woman when I see one and really understand what it means to me, despite others opinions.

So, what really constitutes a woman being BAD? And, who measures her BADNESS? Is it her style or sense of fashion? Is it her physical beauty? Does her physical beauty coupled with her inner soul and accomplishments make her BAD? Is it her alluring demeanor and sophistication? Is it her thought provoking intellect. Or, is it solely her confidence and ability to convince everyone that she is dynamic, and still maintain humbleness. Can you point her out if you have only been introduced to her one time? Or should you have known her for quite sometime? All of these questions deserve careful thought. I do believe you have to make the decision to choose how you are going to use the word. Once you realize how you are going to use it everything else will fall into place. I am in the process of making my decision. I will report back to you once it has been made. In my experience notions of substance don't happen over night.

    The time has come again for one of Hollywood's most glamourous nights. Celebrities have had their gowns and tuxedos for more than six months. Designers are heavily inquired about. Lavish antique jewelry is borrowed, and papparazzi can't resist the camera flash. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the time has come for the Oscars.
    I am not really a fan of the Oscar ceremony, I mean I enjoy movies, but the actual award show is very time consuming and sometimes dull. However, this year of the Oscars is expected to be very daring, mostly attributed to the hosts. Anne Hathaway and James Franco are the two youngest hosts that the Oscars have ever had, and it is generating alot of talk and interest.I am not very familiar with James Franco, but I absolutely adore Anne Hathaway, she is very relatable and a really good actress. I am sure she will fulfill her role as co-host and meet the ceremony's expectations.
    Although, I don't plan to watch the award show in its entirety, I do have plans of watching the Pre-Oscar Red Carpet event. Magazines are recapturing past years' Oscar looks, setting a standard for new Oscar attendees to fulfill, and for the more seasoned attendees to exceed. I hope everyone can deliver.

Saddle Up

It just amazes me how a morning wardrobe malfunction can turn into an equestrian fashion obsession. It felt like it took a whole century for me to pull an outfit together this morning. I just knew I wanted to be warm and comfortable, because of the unpredictable weather we have been experiencing lately. Not to mention, I was having an atrocious hair day, and I knew nothing could cure my troubles but a hat. After piecing everything together, I came up with this equestrian inspired look. I was ecstatic.

I always loved the equestrian style, the look is so dainty and polished. I love the sound of riding boots when they hit the cemented pavement. The thing I love most about this style is that you have so many options to play with to achieve this look. I am definitely going to strive to incorporate this look into my personal style. I really really like it.

Euphoria

Every quarter I model in one of the biggest fashion shows of the city. It is the show where women bring their mothers, sisters, aunts, and best friends for the best suggestion of a couture, vintage, and classic style of a dress. It is the show that allows venues to promote their best products and services. It is the show that gives you a sweet tooth for the most elaborate cake. It is a show that makes every woman wonder if her day will come, and what it will look like. It is the show that makes the most cynical women become hopeless romantics for at least 30 minutes. It is the show that puts so many ideas and feelings into perspective. I bet you are wondering what fashion show could possibly have that great of an influence.

Normally, I am very indifferent about weddings and everything that could be possibly related to the ceremony. So, I never let the bridal shows affect me. I am just in awe of the fashion and I enjoy walking in them. But, something about this fashion show just really allowed me to be taken by the idea of being a bride. Mostly because I envision this dress that is totally out of the traditional radar. I want to reach another pinnacle of fashion and edge, and I want all of my guests to remember me for it. This show really gave me hope that my dream of a couture wedding could actually be reality one day. There are so many things that the bride must take into consideration when she is getting married, these are my top six:

This year The Grove styled the models' hair and they used so many props for are hair. In all of my experience in modeling for the show, this was definitley the most couture for hair styling. I fell in love with this netting. One of the hair stylists told me that the net blew in someone's yard, and they grabbed it because they thought it would look great in hair. I concured with their abstract vision. I was definitely in inspired to incorporate this look the next time I decide to go for a really edgy look to a party. I am absolutely smitten by the styling.

Weekend Mania

How does one actually get the opportunity to truly enjoy their weekend? In my experience, it feels as if I always have an obligation that I have to fulfill. I enjoy being involved in the community, and spending time with friends and family, but sometimes it can be a bit overwhelming and time consuming. After doing everything I set out to do, I find myself having little to no time for me. And, I really really value "me" time.

Its just the little things that I would like to have time for,such as; blogging, cleaning up in the mornings, homework, painting my toes, organizing my closet, working on my fashion wall collage, catching up on the readings of my favorite magazines, organizing my closet, laying out my clothes for the week and redecorating my living room. The list could go on and on and on, but I feel like I lack time for these precious things on the weekends.

So, I have come up with a solution, and that is to make a to-do list everyday. It actually appears to be going well. I don't get to complete everything in one day, but I check off at least two to three tasks a night. It makes me feel more organized and goal oriented.

Today. I chose to wear a skirt that has been sitting in my closet for almost a year now. I never could find a blouse that was simplistic enough to wear without being too overshadowed by the skirt's flamboyant color and fabric. But, this cream silk blouse did just the trick. It felt like butter against my skin. I am so glad I waited to wear this skirt.

These are a few of my favorites from the 53rd Grammy Red Carpet Arrivals. Not many were blog worthy, but the ones that did catch my eye, boy did they nail it.

Eva Longoria commanded the paparazzi's attention with a sophisticated up-do, and her black and white ruffled detailed frock by Ashi Studio. Eva made it a point to showcase her long slender legs, complimented by Brian Atwood satin pumps.

Jennifer Lopez dazzeled the cameras with her metallic sequined mini by Pucci. She also flaunted her toned shapely legs in her glitzy dress, paired with spiked Christian Louboutin heels.

Jada Pinkett sported a grey caged-like chain dress with loose wild ringlets of hair to match. Designer unknown.

Diddy remained simple and refined in this crisp tuxedo pant and white button down. The leather jacket provided a posh youthful flair to his red carpet look.

Rihanna walked the red carpet in a Jean Paul Gaultier Couture gown that resembled a white layered wedding cake. This translucent sheer tulle dress exposed Rihanna's elongated silhouette, and turned the heads of many.

Miss Keri Hilson arrived at the Grammys wearing a strapless, futuristic, blue and gold detailed mini dress by Basil Soda, the 2011 RTW collection. The vibrant blue dress highlighted Keri's golden skin tone.

I DREAM OF SPRING

Today was a very productive day, mostly due the task of me laying my clothes out the night before. I know its so third grade, but it actually allows you to have an extra thirty minutes of guiltless beauty rest. I can't tell you how many times I was tardy to class or an appointment, because I spent almost thirty minutes to an hour standing inside my closet gawking at my garments, trying to figure out what I was going to wear. Yes, laying your clothes out the night before is definitely a must.

The weather put me in great spirits today, and it made me feel more comfortable in my cotton vintage dress. Although, we have a little over a month before spring approaches, I felt this dress was a preview of what to expect from me this spring. Pastel colors, romantic pieces, and nude pumps are definitely in my future. I finally used my canon rebel today.

Last night was the 53rd Annual Grammys Ceremony, and this year definitely paled in comparison to previous red carpet arrivals. The fashion was a bit lack-luster for my tastes. But, I did see a few red carpet eye catchers. So, I won't spend much time critiquing, but I will post my favorites.

Oh yeah, today was a very significant day for many. So, to all my followers who celebrate February 14th. Happy Valentines Day.

NOTHING SHORT OF A MASTERPIECE

This weekend left no room for fashion shortcomings for the two social events I attended. Outfit concepts better have been created a week in advance, and for the more fashionably consumed, two weeks to a month in advance. High expectations were placed on the attendees of these events, and I definitely felt the pressure. Photography (Flyness Effect) was a large component of these events, and it definitely would have been a tragedy to be caught in a fashion disaster.

Friday evening was the star studded birthday of Teylor Gaskin and Anthony Blue Jr. Now, Teylor pretty much expressed what she expected from her guests, and I knew I had to go big or go home. Well, let me just say that my custom made dress relieved me of any fashion woes that night. After exchanging ideas and fashion influences with the amazing local designer , Juantiesha Christiansen of SuShe by JTracey, the ending result was this amazing sequins beauty. Christiansen's skill and talent is absolutely impeccable. I am head over heels with this dress. I mean totally head over heels.

Now if you remember in my last post, I communicated the fact that this dress was suppose to be made for another event prior to this weekend. But, due to work demands the designer had to put the dress on hold. Well, can I just say this dress was worth every bit of the wait.

Saturday night was the going away dinner for Jakeen Couture Fox. I felt the pressures again. I wish I could have repeated my dress again from Friday, but we all know someone would have called me a cab to go home. I managed to put a little something together. Next time I will definitely get something made. I will be sketching a few things for my next dress. I am so elated.

I went for a Chanel inspired prim and proper look, but with a hint of edge. I absolutely adore Chanel's iconic tweed blazers and I am just anticipating the day that I snag a vintage one while thrifting.Until that moment happens, thrifted Chanel inspired blazers will do. This outfit concept came to me after looking through my 2004 copy of teen vogue. There was a fashion spread of tweed blazers worn with form fitting tees and jeans. Well, I'm definitely not a jeans type of girl so I knew my organza rosette skirt would couple perfectly with my tweed blazer. I added my studded Collin Stuart pumps and leather gloves for a little bit of edge.

Is My City Evolving?

This weekend was full of events. First, I attended a launch party for the The ArtHype, a multi-faceted marketing and promotions team. Their vision for their brand serves as a breath of fresh air for the city of Omaha, as we are finally developing in the artistic nightlife realm. It was an amazing experience, and I would like to congratulate the men behind the brand on their success thus far. I see great things in the future for them.
I was suppose to get a dress made, as I am completely tired of shopping at common stores that carry mundane concepts of merchandise. But, the designer that I had consulted for a dress was working on an entire wardrobe for a reality star. Consequently, we had to push back my date. So, I opted to go shopping in the local mall, and I stumbled upon one of the ads in the department store, as soon as I saw the dress that was being displayed in the store was actually for sell, I snatched it right away. My biggest fear was that someone else would have on the dress, because it was so amazing. But, God heard my prayers and allowed me to be the only one there in it. (Thank you Jesus)

Subsequently following, was the Grand Opening of the newest club, Capitol Lounge & Supper Club. I didn't know what look I was going for that night, but I knew I wanted to make a statement. I never wore my favorite vintage sequins jacket out for evening wear, and I knew the time was now. Everything just kind of came together once I went shopping, and one of my bestfriends, Aja, handed them to me. I almost put them down, but then I considered what I laid out to wear that evening, and knew it would be the perfect compliment for my vintage bolero. So, I decided to purchase them and it was a great investment. Once I put them on, I felt like an official Urban Rock Star. A cross between Rihanna/Lady GaGa/Amber Rose. Whatever the case, I felt supa dupa fly!

I usually like to have my cannon rebel when taking pictures for my blog, but my little cannon served its purpose this time around. I hate carrying high tech cameras around at night. I hope you all don't mind. It felt so great to incorporate my style of Edgy-Glamour into two segments of the weekend. Friday was full of glamour with a little edge. And, Saturday night was full-blown edge. Oh, how I adore fashion and getting dressed up.

White Chicken Cheese Chili

Searching for the perfect recipie can take hours if you have the patience. However, if you are in a hurry, its best to improvise.

Its amazing how the winter months inspire you to put your domestic abilities to good use by cooking warm creamy soups and dips.
Today's craving, was a white chicken cheese chilli broth that my girlfriend cooked for me one night, and I have been yearning for it ever since. I spent almost an hour googling the recipie, until I just decided to go to the grocery store, and purchase whatever I needed to make up my own little renditiion.

Ingredients: chicken broth, chicken strips or diced, cream of chicken soup, black beans, corn, mild cheese dip, and monterey jack cheese dip.
The trick to this recipie is managing to keep the chili thick and creamy but still brothy. I love my stews and dips creamy but not too heavy.

Served with tortilla chips or (rice). Bon Apetite

Lets try to stay ahead of the game

The more I research the fashion industry, the more I discover that there is so much that I just don't know. Simply because, the fashion industry is dynamically changing everyday. I am definitely up for the challenge to consume as much information as the industry allows me to.

Today, I perused the chic website of http://www.style.com/ and stumbled upon Paul & JoeI. There is nothing I love more than finding new designers that aren't as high profile or constantly rolling off the tounges of people who assert to know alot about fashion, but are only familiar with the basics. I was very impressed with the collection, it was imbued with pastey shades of yellows, and rich tangerine oranges. The ruffle detailed dresses and silk blouses provided a whimiscal flair and cohesiveness to the designer's presentation. I absolutely adored the thick high waisted tassel belts that appeared to be the dominant accessory in the collection. The boyish, tailored bomber jackets added the finishing touch to the ensembles. Paul & Joe was definitely a delight to see. The images above were a few of my favorites. Hope you all enjoy them as much I did.

I absolutely love this side profile picture, it is my best angle. I use to love these red shoes, I bought them in 2006 when Steve Madden first introduced their Steven line. These red beauties were the first thing that came to mind when I thought of putting this outfit together.

I arrived in Burbank, California in the early evening yesterday, but to my dismay it was not the weather I had been craving for. It is extremely chilly and a strong indicator that all the clothes I packed are not going to be to weather-friendly. I can't wait to explore the city this weekend. I hope my mom integrated some cultural offering on the itinerary. And, I am so stoked that Sex and The City premieres tonight.

I definitely love the play on neutrals for spring. These are my top four picks of Givenchy's spring collection. From first glance the collection shows great promse, but halfway into the show he loses me, the textures and colors are all over the place. I definitely understand intricacy, but those pieces were definitely past being intricate. Well, finals are finally over and I can definitely resume my devotion to this weekly blog. I absolutely missed posting and taking pictures. The summer is approaching and I am so ready to explore the city and share my experiences with you all.

Blue Ambitions

Lately, I have been thinking about my future and how much promise it holds. I know that I want to be a reporter, and I know that I am absolutey head over heels for the fashion industry. However, I have not found a realistic middle ground between the two, in figuring out how I am going to accomplish or integrate them both. I have so many goals and expectations that I set for myself, but I am not sure that my ambitions have been strong enough to accomplish them. Well, its definitely time for me to create a blueprint and start carving out a career for myself, independently and with the help of organizations. I haven't decided how, but I know that it must get done. Failure is not an option.

New York Fashion Week is on my mind and I would definitely like to get there before 2012. I am going to make sure it happens.

Back to the Basics:

When did you first develop a passion for fashion? I think the first time I was truly aware I had a passion for fashion was in middle school. I was shopping at thrift stores, going to indie concerts in San Francisco and trying to really portray my individuality when other girls were just being girlie and concerned with popularity. I always wanted to be different and style was a way for me to express myself.

Who is your favorite designer? Wow, that is tough. I have so many. My idol is Stella McCartney. She is a genuine woman who truly loves women and their bodies and lifestyle. I respect that. I like designers who aren’t necessarily trying to be the most “high fashion”, but are trying to dress women in the real world. She does it to perfection. I dream of attending one of her shows.

Tell us about your experience as an intern at Who What Wear? I actually interned at Women’s Wear Daily in Los Angeles in 2003. I was a fashion intern for a marketing editor and I was in charge of assisting her on photo shoots, styling, trend scouting and attending market appointments. I actually interned with Whitney Port (The Hills and The City). It was a blast and yet another example that fashion plays a big part in my life.

What is your current occupation? I am the director of recruiting for a financial services firm. I love that I get to find the right talent for a company. I contribute to their growth and culture.

Most people identify New York City as the Fashion Capital and praise them for their style consciousness. However, several popular fashion bloggers are based out of the sunny city, how would you say Los Angeles’s fashion scene compares and contributes within the industry? Well, I am not fun Los Angeles. However, I can see that LA has a lot of style for being the Hollywood magnet they are. They are obviously going to have stylish women since there are so many stores and stylist there. However, I think some of the most creative and fun fashion bloggers are from Northern California. Up here we have a different climate and are not as well known as LA, but the girls here are creative and relaxed!

What European country intrigues you the most when it comes to fashion? I love Paris. I know that is so cliché, but ever since I was a little girl I have had an obsession with Paris, France. The women are so feminine and powerful at the same time. I love their sense of style and lifestyle.

Style:

How would you define your personal style and how long did it take for you to evolve it? My style is always evolving. If you look at my blog it shows. I think that I am eclectic. I don’t want to be pigeonholed. However, I think I have a tendency to pick feminine and whimsical pieces.

Many people have their own ideas of what dressing up means, what is your definition? Dressing up is different for everyone. To me it means putting a little more effort into your hair, makeup and fashion and being glamorous.

Your outfits are always so put together, but still manage to have this creative edge. Where do you pull inspiration from, ex: magazines, fashion shows, movies, street style blog sites? Like I mentioned before, I take inspiration from everywhere. I get a lot of it from other fashion blogs. I like to take elements of magazine trends and street style. I am not trying to be anyone I am not, but I also like to try new things.

How long does it take you to get ready, do you ever find yourself standing in the closet for almost an hour trying to conceptualize an outfit? I usually can pull myself together in an hour. My hair takes the longest if I am doing it straight. Of course, I get into ruts. I have had times when I break down in tears over nothing working right. So dramatic- ha ha!

Do you ever have comfortable days when you just wear sweats to go run errands? Heck yes! I am not a 24 hour fashion maven. If you know me I am very down to earth and like to be comfortable. If you lived in my city you are more likely to see me running around in my workout clothes with sweaty hair and no make-up.

What is one article of clothing in your closet that you can’t live without and constantly find yourself revisiting every month? I love a leather jacket. I wear them constantly with jeans, leggings, skirts and dresses. It is my “go to” piece! I own five (four are fake).

Have you ever been apprehensive of wearing something that was completely over the top, and would provoke lots of stares, if so how did you overcome that fear? Yes, this happens a lot especially because I live in a town where you will more likely see a mom at Starbucks and a stroller than a girl who is fashionable. Sometimes I am worried I will stick out too much. I just tell myself you only live once and why not wear what makes you happy.

What is your definition of beauty? A woman with confidence and is genuine.

The Reign of the Blogger:

When did you decide to join the blogosphere world, any blogger inspirations? I joined two years ago, but I only really started to contribute about eight months ago. It has been a blast so far. When I am checking out blogs I go to “The Cherry Blossom Girl, Nana in Wonderland, Cupcakes and Cashmere, Refinery 29 and Who What Wear.

Do you ever get overwhelmed with maintaining your primary blog in addition to other fashion networks and other responsibilities that you have taken on? If so, how do you prioritize your commitments?Yes, I do. it can be very hard to keep up with them all and work, gym, and family. I try my best to put the latter first and then work on the blog. If I have the extra time I use the other social media sites.

What type of camera do you use and who photographs you? I use a Nikon d60 and I either take them with a remote myself or my boyfriend or friends help me.

What does it take for a unfamiliar blogger to interest you, and what content do you look for? I look for someone with great style, a unique perspective and large pretty images.

Who are two of your favorite U.S. and international fashion bloggers? Oh, that is tough. I love Cupcakes and Cashmere and The Cherry Blossom Girl.

How did your blog become so successful? What unusual efforts did you put into it? Unlike many other bloggers my blog did not get successful over night. Unlike other blogs, my blog did not become successful overnight.If you have not noticed bloggers who only post outfit pictures tend to get popular faster. I love posting those, but I want to do more than that. I think you just have to be dedicated, passionate, and respond to your readers.

What is your advice to aspiring fashionistas who want to contribute to the fashion industry? Never give up, anything is possible. Be a student to fashion and keep up with all the current trends.
